Miracle Oils

Daughter of the Soil skincare is a pioneering British-Blended, African-Heritage beauty brand driven by the benefits of nature. Powered by time-tested African botanical oils that target deeper layers of the dermis for radiant, youthful skin.

The inspiration for creating Daughter of the Soil came from Maria’s great-grandmother Onyang, who believed in the benefits of nature. She believed in green beauty – a philosophy that we continue to incorporate within Daughter of the Soil.

Our vision is to continue her legacy of nurturing natural, non-toxic beauty and deliver the benefits of African botanical oils to the skincare needs of women, men and children of today. This underpins what our formulations are all about: ‘hero-ing’ African botanical oils obtained from sustainable sources and chosen for their nutrient-rich and natural anti-ageing properties. It was Onyang’s gift of working with and nurturing nature that made her a daughter of the soil.

Beauty oils have become popular over the last few decades in the West, but botanical oils have been used in Africa for centuries to nourish, moisturize and protect the skin. There is a deep affection and respect for these treasured ingredients in the native communities where they originate from: from the tree, to the fruit to the oils. The uses are virtually endless and there are beautiful stories of culture and rituals which we celebrate.

When one connect the dots, Daughter of the Soil completes a circle: it showcases some of Africa’s most unique and treasured ingredients so that women can look supremely beautiful on the outside – and it helps us to support the communities who give those treasures to us, so that we can harness their power and beauty from the inside too, and give something back.

Treasured Ingredients

East African Shea Butter

Vitellaria Paradoxa Nilotica

Shea butter is highly penetrating, hydrating and has a softening effect on the skin. The high composition of essential fatty acids and vitamins in the East African Nilotica variety makes it ideal for nourishing dry skin.
Our shea butter products are sourced from Uganda and inspired by my great-grandmother Onyang’s recipes. We have named them “Onyang Collection” in her memory.

Baobab Seed Oil

The Baobab tree is perhaps the best known tree in Africa, known as ‘The Tree of Life’. So widespread is the tree that, to many, it is an iconic symbol of the continent itself. Baobab oil is uniquely lightweight, and has superior moisturising properties due to high oleic and linoleic fatty acid composition.

Saturated with vitamins and antioxidants, it encourages skin regeneration and also improves elasticity by stimulating collagen and tissue repair.

Rooibos Tea

Aspalathus Linearis

South Africa

Indigenous to South Africa, this botanical is treasured by the native people that live there. It is a potent antioxidant and naturally rich in zinc, which helps increase the skin’s metabolism.

Rooibos is also rich in superoxide dismutase – an enzyme with excellent anti aging properties.

Marula Seed Oil

Sclerocarya Birrea

Marula Oil has been used in Africa for centuries valued for its skin nourishing and hydrating properties. Used as early as 9000BC, Marula oil is often referred to as the “miracle oil” for its remarkable qualities. Its high oleic acid content locks in moisture and creates a protective barrier on the skin. Tocopherols, sterols and flavonoids provide antioxidant protection from free radicals and skin ageing.

Moringa Seed Oil

Moringa Oleifera

Affectionately known as ‘The Miracle Tree,” the natural goodness of Moringa dates back thousands of years ago. Moringa seed oil provides powerful nutrients and remedies for the skin. The naturally high concentration of oleic fatty acids in the oil makes it extremely moisturising and nourishing for the skin. It also contains behenic acid, which helps to smooth and sooth the skin. Rich in antioxidants it helps to fight free radical damage and reduce signs of skin aging.

Frankincense Oil

Boswellia Sacra

North Africa

Frankincense oil keeps tissue healthy and also encourages healthy cell regeneration.

Myrrh Oil

Commiphora Myrrha

North Africa

Harvested from Northern Africa and then steam distilled, this oil has potent anti inflammatory and antioxidant powers due to the terpenoids it contains.
